National Art Gallery

Went to the National Art Gallery and had a tour inside. These photos was taken before entering the gallery. And they don't allow pictures taken inside that place. Too bad.

Titiwangsa Lake View 2 by ~temporary40 on deviantART

This picture was taken from Titiwangsa Lake. A very beautiful place for botanical lovers.

Titiwangsa Lake View by ~temporary40 on deviantART

This infamous KL Tower and Petronas Twin Tower. Besides, you can see the Instana Budaya, blue roof which looks like the Sydney Opera House and The National Art Gallery, with white roof.

What I learnt from the place is that art is dynamic. Art can come in any form. And some may not look nice or graceful but it is there. If a normal person going into the art gallery, he/she may bored to death of the art there. There was nothing even special about it he/she may thought. But I hold this philosophy. Art comes in any where, any time, any place, any shape. Something might look horrible but it has its own artistic value. It is not about the piece looking nice or beautiful, it is how the artist sculpt it. It is how the artist creates it. It is how the artist form it. So will I hold on to this, Art is Everywhere.

Beautiful Moments

Sometimes we should really wonder, when good things come, do we appreciate it to our best. Some just miss the chance. Some may ignore it. Like this scenery of light breakthrough the clouds, it never comes often. It is the moment that we need to appreciate. The good moment. We may ignore it but someday we will come back to think about it. Did I miss the chance? Did I lose the good moment when I can appreciate it to the fullest.

Stocks Galore

I been thinking of creating a new label here which is Stocks. For artist, digital or traditional, stocks is important for inspiration. You need stocks for creation, for art, or just for a piece of painting.

Featuring a stock and a texture as a start.

Chinese Chess

This is a piece made using 3D Studio Max after going to the RM 300.o0 course. Its costly but its already the discounted price. Original price is RM 1200.00. I think its okay. Sort of learned something from it.

This piece of model features a chess set with translucent pieces and transparent pieces. Of course Chinese chess set are easier to construct than English chess set because of the simplicity.

I used a mixture of Photoshop and Illustrator too to start with. Creating this piece.

As it was said, Chinese Chess may take minutes to learn but a lifetime to master.

Inspiration?

I totally lost my inspiration. Why inspiration is important? Its because I am a newbie in art or you may say n00b. I don't take art for SPM, and frankly speaking, I suck in my secondary school art class. If I don't have inspiration, I don't have anything to create. Those creative leg are good in creating art with or without inspiration but for me, its important. Crucial I would say. I think its the examination season that gets me like that. Bad mood, stressed, especially the management paper.

Nevertheless, enjoy my half-effort made work in photograph. It depict my current situation.

It was electronics 2 exam on 9th November and after the exam, I went to KLCC for the UK Education fair.

Speaking of the examination. It was a disaster. Damn hard. Luckily I manage to pass it. Just hope the result is okay.

The education fair was nothing. Just some bunch of United Kingdom Universities and colleges trying to promote for their respective institution.

University of Sheffield offered engineering course and it costs 13,000 pound per year to study. Oh my, it is like RM 420,000 to complete the course. ==

I think Skudai is good. Cheap and closer to home.

By the way, these are come snapshots I did at KLCC and the park.

I am nor sure what is this but it seems to resemble some sort of fish species.

By the way, all of these photos was added with effects. "P
Got to get on with Exams.

Just now was revising my Electronics 2 for tomorrow's examination but actually was playing Big 2 with my sectionmates. Later on was going to read my soft notes, I meant soft copy notes. Yesterday I was doing my Fluid Power assignment, due on the paper's day.

Oh my, why life have to so busy. And I cannot even complete my other obligation. Just exam and assignment and sleep, and nothing else. Quite boring.

And I have yet to create my space tutorial package and come to think of it, it was since long ago that I created my last digital art on Photoshop. My last real art was the Garena Wallpaper Contest which I don't win before I went busy with the 'Malam Kebudayaan Cina'.

Garena Wallpaper by Tempo by ~temporary40 on deviantART

At least my friend gets 2000 experience point on the forum which he don't really care about. How ironic. Nevertheless,

To move on, tutorial seekers, I promised on my Ultimate Space Tutorial Package which I am not sure when I will be producing it. I did plan something in my mind, Part 1 for an sketch and Last Part for compilation. That's all, nothing else.

Still have to go through another 6 papers before I am free from examinations. How irritating.

Rich Color Tutorial

I found this way to enrich the color of dull looking pictures especially taken with cheap digital camera. I admit I use one but it is an average one. So to enrich the color, some will use Hue and Saturation, and some may use Levels. But for me, I chose to use combination of Hue and Saturation with Soft Light.

Why? Maybe because it gives nice color but at the same time it does not destroy the picture. By destroy I mean fill the picture with eye sore colors.

Let's start.

1) Okay, this is me and don't laugh. See the picture. Looks dull.

2) First of all, create a new layer (Layer > New > Layer or Shift + Ctrl + N) and Apply Image (Image > Apply Image).

Use Hue and Saturation of the new layer (Image > Adjustment > Hue and Saturation) and set the value of saturation to 66%.

Set the Blending Mode to Soft Light.

3) Next, create another new layer and Apply Image.

This time Desaturate it and set the mode to Soft Light too but reduce the Opacity to 50%.

To finish up, create another new layer and Apply Image.

4) This is the final effect, see we have change from the bottom to the top. You can bring out the feature of the rock nicer.

5) This is what I done with another picture, the greenery looks greener. and the lake looks more lively.

6) Yet another picture of Cameron Highland, you can bring out the striking effect of greenery from the plants using this method.

Is that all? No, I am going to share some more tricks with Blending Modes and add some effects that looks nice on pictures. Here are some effects that I like to share with you all Photography enthusiasts who don't own a SLR like me.

Let's start

7) Use the method above and duplicate the final image. The one after you Apply Image one.

Set the duplicated later to Multiply and Desaturate it (Image > Adjustment > Desaturate). Change the Opacity to 50%

In the picture above, the final image would be Layer 4 and the duplicated image would be Layer 5

8) This effect will give a gloomy effect to our picture. From the left part we have the dull picture. The center part we have the rich color and right part, gloomy effect.

9) For this effect, you will make all the color looks old, not dull but rather old.

From Step 8, set the duplicated layer to Darken and Opacity to 100%

10) This would be the same with Step 8 but this time the Opacity is 100%.

Some picture needs darken up some don't, so you need to judge by your own instinct

11) Some picture might need some lower saturation.

On top of all the layers apply an adjustment layer. Go to Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Hue and Saturation. Lower the saturation's value.

12) Final effect, you have this gloomy looking picture without the striking color effect.

13) The next effect are for those picture with similar 'things' from the top to the bottom.

After applying the rich color effect (Step 1 to Step 6), duplicate the final image and use Layer > Layer Masks > Reveal All.

14) On the Mask layer, apply an White to Black to White Gradient from top to bottom. Use Shift-Click to make sure you have a 90 degree slope.

15) Click on the Layer as shown on the picture above. Not the Mask, the Layer.

16) Apply Gaussian Blur (Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur). Adjust the value until you have this effect.

This technique are for those with auto focusing camera, where you cannot focus yourself.

17) If sometimes after applying the rich color effect, we get something we don't expect like this.

18) To fix, add a New Layer and fill it with any shade of green.

Set the Mode to Color

19) Create a new layer and Apply Image.

Set the applied image to Soft Light.

Turn off the Color Layer.

(Ignore the Mask Layer. The black and white thingy beside those layers are called Masks)

20) We have the fixed image at the right part.

21) After applying Step 1 to 6, we get a dark image.

22) The final Applied Image is Layer 4.

To fix, duplicate the Layer 4 for 3 copies. Set the first 2 duplicated to Screen.

Desaturate the final image and set to Linear Dodge (Add)

23) Final effect.

24) Last effect that I like to share here. I think I got this from some where. Sorry if I copied.

We are going to make some blur effect on the white area.

Yes, this final effect are only suitable for image with some revealed part of light.

25) Go to the Channel Palette and Click one Blue Channel.

Load channel as Selection

26) After you have your selection Click on RGB back.

27) Have your Marquee Tool selected and right click on the canvas and choose Layer via Copy

28) Set you new layer to Linear Dodge (Add)

Apply Gaussian Blur on it (Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur).

You may want to use whatever blur you can find instead of Gaussian Blur. Box blur, Lens Blur, anything. Radial Blur could be a good effect but you need to enlarge your layer by 110% by Transform (Ctrl + T). Radial Blur will give the 'Light Breaking Through' effect.

29) Final Effect of the Final Technique.

Now for some freebies. You can get them from another blog I would like to promote.

Chain Mail 01: Meaning of FAMILY

F A M I L Y

I ran into a stranger as he passed by,
'Oh excuse me please' was my reply.

He said, 'Please excuse me too;
I wasn't watching for you.'

We were very polite, this stranger and I.
We went on our way and we said goodbye.

But at home a different story is told,
How we treat our loved ones, young and old.

Later that day, cooking the evening meal,
My son stood beside me very still.

When I turned, I nearly knocked him down.
'Move out of the way,' I said with a frown.

He walked away, his little heart broken.
I didn't realize how harshly I'd spoken.

While I lay awake in bed,
God's still small voice came to me and said,

'While dealing with a stranger,
common courtesy you use,
but the family you love, you seem to abuse.

Go and look on the kitchen floor,
You'll find some flowers there by the door.

Those are the flowers he brought for you.
He picked them himself: pink, yellow and blue.

He stood very quietly not to spoil the surprise,
you never saw the tears that filled his little eyes.'

By this time, I felt very small,
And now my tears began to fall.

I quietly went and knelt by his bed;
'Wake up, little one, wake up,' I said.

'Are these the flowers you picked for me?'
He smiled, 'I found 'em, out by the tree.

I picked 'em because they're pretty like you.
I knew you'd like 'em, especially the blue.'

I said, 'Son, I'm very sorry for the way I acted today;
I shouldn't have yelled at you that way.'
He said, 'Oh, Mom, that's okay.
I love you anyway.'

I said, 'Son, I love you too,
and I do like the flowers, especially the blue.'

FAMILY
Are you aware that if we died tomorrow, the company
that we are working for could easily replace us in
a matter of days.
But the family we left behind will feel the loss
for the rest of their lives.

And come to think of it, we pour ourselves more
into work than into our own family,
an unwise investment indeed,
don't you think?
So what is behind the story?

Do you know what the word FAMILY means?
FAMILY = (F)ATHER (A)ND (M)OTHER (I) (L)OVE (Y)OU

Cameron Highland Snaps

I have been searching through my digital camera and I found there few picture that I think, I think that looks good in the perspective, takes, color, etc. So I have decided to use Photoshop to make it nicer. And indeed when uploaded to DeviantArt, I got some of it favored for example Tea Farm and Red Leaves. Do enjoy the snaps.

Nescafe by ~temporary40 on deviantART

Okay, tired day, time for a drink

Jalan Hang Tuah by ~temporary40 on deviantART

This is totally a random shot of Jalan Hang Tuah, nothing to do with the trip. I post it here to show that I use the same effect on this picture as I use them on all the pictures here.

I will make a tutorial on how to color correct the correct way. Like I did for these photos. I love them so much, or am I being narcissistic?

Buncho Watercolor

Buncho Watercolor by ~temporary40 on deviantART

My favorite watercolor brand. Buncho also produce posters color but I like watercolor more.

This set is Joan's and photographed it with my camera and apply effects on it.

Still remember this times I learned art from Modern Art Gallery. They taught how to use brush and watercolor, lots of techniques in watercoloring. How to paint the sky with clouds, water reflection, trees, trunks, branches, so on and so forth.

Sometimes you can fell good painting. It is like expressing yourself with a brush on a piece of art block. Do whatever you like with it, paint your feeling out. Just dab and dab and dab away. And I especially like tree leaves. Its like dabbing in some special motion. Get it right, then you can get a nice tree.

Some of my arts at this post: Kampung and Mountain Scenery

To those tutorials seeker, I am researching on ways to create your own space scenery purely out of Photoshop. Of course with some presets.

In the near future, you will be served with an Ultimate Space Tutorial Package with Sub-Tutorial to create Planets, Planet Ring, The Sun, Nebula, Star Field, and Comet.
You may ask why Star Field and Nebula AGAIN? (http://khinhooi.blogspot.com/2008/10/nebula-clouds.html). Well, this time I will be creating a more realistic looking Star Field.

Did you know we have 2 kind of space scenery? First is near view scene for instance Solar system. Second would be far view scene for instance galaxies. I will be covering both of these scenes.

But the bad news, it won't come too early. I am having an exam now. So, I will try my best to find the time to create those tutorials.

The techniques used are altered or copied from other tutorials so I will credit those original tutorial creator.

You would say "This guy is bluffing". So, here you are, created by only Photoshop with some brush and pattern presets.

These tutorials I would aim to those with intermediate to advance skill in Ps. I will try my best to provide instruction to those beginners too.

Because Picasa Web album do limit the size of pictures upload, I will use ImageShack instead. I would like to give credits to .

Stay tuned.
